Boys Don't Cry

“You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me.”(Psalm 56:8-9)

A few years ago, Hollywood rewarded actress Hilary Swank with an Oscar for her lip-locked performance as a cross-dressing girl in Boys Don't Cry. While the world may think that it's not cool for boys to cry, God has promised in His Word that He is seeing ALL of our tears. In fact, He counts each one of them and put them in His book and unlike WorldCom, Enron, Adelphia or Tyco, God only keeps one set of books. Kevin Costner can only get us Message In A Bottle, but God Almighty will collect every
drop of our tears in His bottle. God had seen the tears of powerful men like King Hezekiah "Go and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: 'I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.' " (Isaiah 38:5-6). God is no respecter of persons, and getting an additional 15 years of life and deliverance for an entire city is not bad for shedding some tears and trusting God to answer our prayers.

After the death of Lazarus, Mary and the Jews who came with her wept on seeing Jesus. "Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, 'Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.' Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. And He said, 'Where have you laid him?' They said to Him, 'Lord, come and see.' Jesus wept." (John 11:32-35). On seeing them weeping Jesus the Son
of God also wept. In the garden of Gethsemane before His crucifixion Jesus not only sweat drops of blood but also prayed a powerful prayer with tears for us, "who, in the days of His flesh [crucifixion], when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear" (Hebrews 5:7). It's your party and you can cry if you want to, it's OK for boys and girls to cry because if we don't, how can God put our tears in
His bottle or enter them into His book? And if you cry enough to God with Tears for Fears, you may have the last laugh, and laugh you will all the way to the bank.
