Joe Somebody

“Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread. He sent a man before them – Joseph – who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, he was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the LORD tested him. The king sent and released him, the ruler of people let him go free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his possessions.” (Psalm 105:16-21).

In 2001, Tim Allen starred in a comedic flop about an ordinary Joe who got beat up in front of his daughter and decided to fight back and be a Joe Somebody. Joe is short for Joseph and God is indeed raising up Josephs all over the world to be a somebody that everybody can depend on. Some are stuck in the pit, some are still in slavery, some are in prison, while a select few are heading toward promotion and wealth as The Prince of Egypt.

To be a true Joseph takes many years of trials and tribulation, preparation and testing because he is a master provider spiritually and materially for the born-again believers and for the lost world as well. A Joseph Somebody is someone who understands that he is just a manager not an owner, that he is only a faithful steward of whatever God has blessed him with. After years of testing, the coat of divine favor is still on him coupled with a healthy fear of God, plenty of humility, a broken spirit and obedience to His Word.

Modern Josephs are incubated in the ovens of bruised feet, with shackles and necks put in irons through the adversity of depleted finances, rocky marriages, political oppression, broken relationships, and failed dreams. These things that try men’s souls are what God uses to allow the Josephs to be proven by the Word of God. Once proven, God delivers them from prisons and uses them mightily for His glory. Joseph endured immense trials because of a calling of Biblical proportions to deliver and provide for an entire nation. God had to season this young man with 13 years of broken dreams and adverse circumstances in order to smash all his pride and ego.

God could not afford to have an egotistical, megalomanical 30-year-old running the vast empire of Egypt. Just like Joseph was used to deliver Israel and the world from famine and enrich the wealth of Egypt, God is raising up Josephs today to receive the worldwide wealth transfer to finance the global harvest of souls. With billions of souls out there that are lost or backslidden, are you willing to let God groom you to be a modern day Joseph so they can receive the free gift of salvation when they hear the gospel preached? Only when you are ready to use your time, talents and treasure for God’s Kingdom and endure adversity will you get to be a Joe Somebody.
