He’s All That

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2:12)

In the 1999 teen comedy She’s All That, Freddy Prinze Jr bet with his classmate that he can turn geeky Rachel Leigh Cook into a prom queen. God is a triune being with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. In fact, He’s All That. The Holy Spirit, in particular, is our Teacher and Strengthener. He is immensely strong, with power, wisdom, glory and might. He’ll help us to understand the deep revelations from the Bible, the living Word of God. He has the power to resist satan and his demonic forces.

When we feel weak, we can draw on the power of the Holy Spirit and say, “Holy Spirit, do this for me.” We can do all things because He strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). The Holy Spirit is our Comforter and Helper, for He assists, aids and abetts us, and He’ll give us more relief than Rolaids. The Spirit is the burden-removing, yoke-destroying anointing (Isaiah 10:27) that prevents bad things from happening. God only knows how many times the Holy Spirit has prevented unpleasant things from happening to us simply because we obeyed His Word and yielded our lives to Him.

The Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Advocate. He’ll give us the best advice and defend us with the truth, and give us guidance without asking for a retainer. We can deliberate or consult with Him, and He’ll give us a plan of action to will lead to victory. The Holy Spirit is our Paraclete or Standby, for He comes alongside and stands by us. He is more dependable than Maytag and is ready as a Minuteman to substitute for us if there are things we can’t handle.

The Holy Spirit is our Guide and Changer who helps us grow. As we’re growing in God, we’ll begin to change. The natural man resists change, but we can ask the Holy Spirit to help us change so we can grow, because He is our Helper and Changer. Finally, the Spirit is our Intercessor and Edifier because He prays for us when we don’t know how to pray as we ought to. He is continually edifying us and praying in our favor for whatever we need. As we stir ourselves up to pray in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20) and build ourselves up spiritually by praying in an unknown tongue that the devil doesn’t understand, we can draw on the endless supply of the Holy Spirit for whatever we need.
