The Rainmaker

“Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He has given you the former rain faithfully, and He will cause the rain to come down for you – the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.” (Joel 2:23-24)

The Rainmaker is a 1997 movie based on the John Grisham novel about a young lawyer taking on a powerful law firm that represents a corrupt insurance company. Matt Damon may have been The Rainmaker in the movie and Dustin Hoffman may have been Rain Man, but God is the ultimate rainmaker for it is He who creates the rain and gives us the power to get wealth.(Deuteronomy 8:18)

There are seasons in our lives that involve times of famine and times of rain or restoration. King Solomon tells us that there is a season for everything and a time for every purpose under heaven and that God has made everything beautiful in its time. (Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 11) Unlike Clint Eastwood, God brings about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Seasons of famine, as unwanted as they are, have a divine purpose to break us to empty us of our pride, to crucify our flesh and to decimate the reliance on SELF that wants to indulge in sin and reach out For A Few Dollars More.

The good news is there will be a time when they have accomplished their purpose and God begins to restore and give us A Fistful of Dollars. God did this with the nation of Israel after a season of famine by sending the former and latter rain at the same time and restoring the years that the locusts have eaten. (Joel 2:25-26) God wants us to know that He will restore in order to demonstrate His power and gracious hand in our lives. God is a loving Father who guides His children through the tough times of life.

If God has taken you through a time of lack, sickness, debt, oppression or famine, know that He is the ultimate restorer of that which the locusts, the cankerworm, the caterpillar and the palmerworm have eaten. God will restore all the way from the root to the fruit so that we can enjoy the tree of life. He will restore our finances, our relationships, our family, our health, our businesses, and our possessions. Meditate daily on His Word concerning the promises of restoration and wait patiently for God to bring this about for surely He will do it.
