The RainmakerBe glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God; for He has given you the former rain faithfully, and He will cause the rain to come down for you the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil. (Joel 2:23-24) The Rainmaker is a 1997 movie based on the John Grisham novel about a young lawyer taking on a powerful law firm that represents a corrupt insurance company. Matt Damon may have been The Rainmaker in the movie and Dustin Hoffman may have been Rain Man, but God is the ultimate rainmaker for it is He who creates the rain and gives us the power to get wealth.(Deuteronomy 8:18) There are seasons
in our lives that involve times of famine and times of rain or restoration.
King Solomon tells us that there is a season for everything and a time
for every purpose under heaven and that God has made everything beautiful
in its time. (Ecclesiastes 3:1 and 11) Unlike Clint Eastwood, God brings
about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Seasons of famine, as unwanted
as they are, have a divine purpose to break us to empty us of our pride,
to crucify our flesh and to decimate the reliance on SELF that wants
