I Am

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’” (Exodus 3:14-15)

In the 2001 movie I Am Sam, Sean Penn portrayed a retarded man fighting for custody of his seven year old daughter and in the process teaches his cold hearted lawyer Michelle Pfeiffer the value of love and family. Sean Penn may have acted superbly in I am Sam, but God is the great I AM. In fact, from the beginning of time, God has been the great I AM. To all of us, past, present, and future God is saying in His Word, “I AM all you need.” The great I AM does not change.

He is not the God of I WAS nor the God of I WILL BE, but He is the God of I AM, and the God of I AM is full of power right here and now to meet all of our needs. What do we want God to be? Provider? Strengthener? Giver? Blesser? Savior? Multiplier? Teacher? Restorer? Comforter? Healer? Deliverer? Whatever needs we might have, God is more than able to meet those needs because with God nothing is impossible and because He is the great I AM.

In poverty, the great I AM can bring divine abundance and supply our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. In debt, the great I AM can bring total debt cancellation not just for us, but for an entire nation. In sickness, the great I AM can bring supernatural healing to all our diseases. In confusion and chaos, the great I AM can bring a peace that surpasses understanding. In oppression, the great I AM can bring deliverance and freedom. In darkness and sin, the great I AM can bring light and salvation to the world. In loss and tragedy, the great I AM can bring restoration and wholeness. In death, the great I AM can bring resurrection and the God kind of life.

These promises from the Word of God are for us because God has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. Jesus is our Lord and Saviour and by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.(Colossians 1:13, 16-17 )
