War and PeaceBut the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace [wholeness, nothing missing, nothing broken]. (Psalm 37:11) Many of us have seen the 1956 Audrey Hepburn epic War and Peace based on the Leo Tolstoy novel about Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812 and its effect on a noble Russian family. While the movie didn’t do justice to the novel, God is using it to tell us about the weapon of peace in the battles of life. Peace is actually a weapon more lethal than Mel Gibson because the ups and downs of life can destroy our peace. Money, health, children, business, deadlines, and relationships all exert incredible stress on us. Our confidence in the God of peace and our faith in His Word declare that we are not buying the lies of the devil because the first step toward having spiritual authority over the dark side is having peace in spite of our circumstances. When Jesus confronted the devil, he did not do it with emotions or fear. Jesus refused to be influenced by anything other than God’s Word because He knew the devil is a liar and the father of lies. His peace or the peace of God simply overwhelmed the devil, and His authority based on the Word of God crushed the lies and the weapons of mass deception which sent legions of demons running for cover. If we are walking with God by meditating on His Word day and night then we should simply fear no evil. David faced a bear, a lion, and a nine-feet-six giant named Goliath. In Psalm 23:4 he stood in the valley of the shadow of death and yet he feared no evil. David’s trust was totally in the LORD his shepherd for God was with him. Because God is with us, every trial we face will result in victory as we maintain our faith in God. David wrote about the abundance of God, You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. (Psalm 23:5) There are no enemies in heaven, and the enemies we face are here and now on earth. The war against debt, sickness, poverty and oppression that we are in will soon become a feast of victory for us, an experience that will build us up spiritually and lead us to a wealthy place (Psalm 66:12). Only the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will control our fleshly reactions in the heated battles of life. The source of God’s peace is none other than God Himself, Yahweh Shalom, or His Word. If fear has been knocking at our door, face that fear by answering the door with faith in God’s Word and the peace of God will see to it that no one is there.Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries.
