The
West Wing
He
shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take
refuge; His truth [the Word of God] shall be your shield and buckler.
(Psalm 91:4)
The West Wing is an Emmy-winning hit TV series created in 1999 starring
Martin Sheen and Rob Lowe about the lives of staffers in the west wing
of the White House. In the Book of Psalm, David repeatedly mentions
not just the west wing, but both wings of God in Psalm 63:7, 61:4, 57:1,
36:7 and 17:8. David envisioned the hen gathering her chicks under her
wings of love and protection when a bird of prey was about to pick up
a Happy Meal.
Kate
Hudson can only give us The Four Feathers, but Gods wings of grace
and mercy provide us with safety and protection from all the feathers.
These wings are the promises in the Word of God and acts of providence
on behalf of His own dear children, and they spoke of Gods divine
power and loving tenderness. Like the mother hen, God is keeping us
safe and warm from the calamities of life until they ceased, and all
danger subsided. God is not a fair-weather but a full-feathered friend
whose wings serve as a place for us to hide, warm, trust, seek refuge,
and even rejoice. The wings are symbolic of Gods refuge and shelter
from the storms of life, for they represent His awesome and majestic
presence.
In the midst of hard times, so many of us run back and forth seeking
refuge for our souls, only to be disappointed and frustrated. Safety,
protection, deliverance, refreshment, and shelter cannot be found in
this world, nor can they be found in man. They can only be found as
we abide in the Word of God and DO whatever it says to do. Many of us
overlook this place of refuge because we do not really know God or His
Word intimately as we should, because we are not in daily contact with
Him.
Sunday
alone is not enough, much less an infrequent inquiry where God is called
upon only when trouble arises like after 911 or Bali. God desires that
all His children spend time each day to meditate in His Word in order
to bask in His presence, not just when troubles come. God desires that
we, as the Bride of Christ, spend quality time with our heavenly Bridegroom,
the Lord Jesus Himself in order to have a Big Fat God Wedding. Only when
we sit under His shadow of His wings will we receive the much needed refreshing
and revival for our souls.
