24

“Then Elisha said, ‘Hear the word of the LORD. Thus said the LORD: Tomorrow about this time [in 24 hours] a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.’” (2 Kings 7:1)

Kiefer Sutherland stars in a TV show called 24 about 24 hours in the life of a secret service agent, but God also has a word called 24 for us. No matter how bad the problem we may be facing today, no matter how overwhelmed we may be, in 24 hours we can be back on top. In 2 Kings chapters 6 and 7 the city of Samaria was ravaged by famine, enemy troops laid siege and cut off all source of supply. Parents may not understand Will Smith, but they were eating children just to survive.

But in the midst of that tragedy, God told the prophet Elisha that in 24 hours things would change for the better. Fine flour and barley would sell cheaply and there would be abundance. God used the four lepers, the Barbarians at the Gate, to turn things around. Four lepers who, instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and waiting to die, decided to walk toward the enemy camp. Miraculously, they found it abandoned because the enemy troops had been frightened by the angels of God, and they had left enough food, valuables and other goodies behind to feed the entire city of Samaria.

The trouble with us is we tend to focus on the problems we face instead of meditating on the promises in the Word of God. We are so surrounded with the negative voices of the world that the vision of our victory is blindsided. When that happens, faith and power begin to weaken and the trials of life cave in on us. You may not be Nicolas Cage, but It Could Happen To You if you don’t stop looking at your problem and feeling sorry for yourself because that won’t change anything.

Just like God did for Elisha, He has given you a word. God has promised you deliverance from all your problems, give you victory over the your enemies, and make you much more than a conqueror. Don’t just sit there waiting for The 25th Hour like Edward Norton, but refuse to accept defeat like the four lepers. Rise up in faith, stand on the promises of God’s Word and claim your inheritance of glory that has been laid up for you from before the foundation of the world. Get mad at the devil, be like Devo and whip him good. Get mad at that sickness and oppression by sowing so you can start reaping. Get angry with debt and poverty and start giving for a living. Rise up in the Name of Jesus and receive the salvation of God.
