A Walk to Remember

“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation” (Psalm 91:15-16)

In the 2002 romantic teen movie A Walk To Remember, Mandy Moore gave a good performance as the minister’s daughter who changed the life of a troubled boy forced to do community service in a school play for a small town. God also calls us to walk with Him in a daily spiritual walk to remember as we meditate on His holy Word day and night and remember to DO what it says to do so that our ways will be prosperous and we will have good success. (Joshua 1:8)

We are to love and serve God with our whole heart and walk closely with Him in good times and bad. LL Cool J can only Deliver Us From Eva, but God will deliver us from Dr Evil, Mini Me and all kinds of trouble. Then, when we need Him to be our Deliverer when the bad times come and somehow they always do, we'll know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we can really trust Him to come Shining Through like Michael Douglas for us.

Besides El Shaddai and El Elyon, God is known by many other names in the Bible. He is the LORD our Shepherd, our Peace, our Healer, our Provider, our Banner, Our Holiness, our Righteousness, and in Psalm 91 He is our Deliverer. We have confidence in God only when we do the Word or do the things that are pleasing in His sight. (1 John 3:20-22) If we only serve God in an on-off or casual manner, then we will not have the confidence in Him to deliver us from trouble. When trouble comes, instead of being filled with faith and patience, we’ll be paralyzed with fear.

Many believers never experience God’s mighty power because, instead of walking with Him daily, they wait until trouble comes to light some candles or call upon Him. If we want God to rescue us in the bad times, we have to hang with Him in the good times because God only responds to faith and faith comes by hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Our faith, not our need, is what causes God to act on our behalf. And we’ll never develop that kind of faith, trust and confidence in Him that will move mountains, if we don't spend time meditating on His Word to get to know Him.
