Master Potter

But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

As the British author J.K. Rowling churns out the fifth Harry Potter book and Hollywood keeps on making the sequels and raking it in at the box office, we must realize that God the Master Potter is much more powerful than anything Harry Potter could ever do. God is the Rock of Ages, whereas Harry Potter could only give us The Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry Potter could only play around the Chamber of Secrets, but God is the keeper and revealer of all secrets in His Word. God will deliver us from trouble whereas Harry Potter could only lead us to bondage in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

We are to live our lives based on the Word of God, not on the things of the world. We are to separate ourselves from the evil and corrupt influences of the world as we renew our minds with the Word. Indeed there are times when God begins to change things in our lives, moving us in a new direction, and it’s uncomfortable. The breaking in can feel strange, like wearing a new pair of Nike shoes. Instead of Just Do It, we want to go back to the old shoes, even if they were worn out because they were comfortable.

As God’s children, we are to submit ourselves and especially our precious children to the Master Potter’s hand, not to the witchcrafts of Harry Potter. We are to avoid buying the Harry Potter books, toys, games and movies. Not only that, we are to avoid all examples of the occult like Halloween, horoscopes, psychic hotlines, satanic lyrics, palm reading, crystal balls, tarot cards, ouija boards, New Age gurus and things of that ilk. Many times for our own good God has to twist and bend us from our wicked ways, and it’s painful as we Twist and Shout.

We might think things will never come out right. But God knows what He is doing for He’s an experienced Master Potter, and He loves us more than we can ever imagine. We are His masterpiece made in His image and likeness, and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. If you’re going through an uncomfortable episode like sickness, poverty, divorce or oppression, know that God is on your side and He is working things out for your good as you seek Him first. You may not see how it will turn out, but God in His infinite wisdom does. With faith in the Word, you can really trust in the Master Potter’s hand.
