A Guy Thing

“Direct my steps by Your Word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)

In the 2003 movie A Guy Thing starring Julia Stiles and Jason Lee, a man does a guy thing by cheating on his fiance with her cousin at his bachelor party and then tries to cover it up. That may be a guy thing according to Hollywood, but according to God it is a guy thing and a girl thing to know the will of God as we spend time in the Word of God to get to know Him so that we can master the temptations to sin and live in victory and total life prosperity.

We need to seek God’s will and know that God cares about our steps and wants only the best for us. God is more concerned about the kind of person we become than He is about any decision we might make. We need to seek His presence rather than just His plan for our lives, because the most important part of His plan for us is to have a close and intimate relationship with Him as Big Daddy. When we decide on doing some thing, we need to think through every aspect thoroughly, asking questions such as whether our steps are directed by the Word, will this glorify God, bless others or help us grow spiritually.

In the Bible, God has revealed His entire will for us and the Word of God is the will of God. When facing a decision, we need Five Easy Pieces to consider how God wants us to act: Bible reading, prayer, advice from mature Spirit-filled believers, assessment of the circumstances and a sense of inner peace. God’s Will Hunting is a process and we need to be patient as God will act in His way and in His time. Often, God will reveal only enough for us to take the next step rather than disclosing the master plan because He wants to be our guide and tests our faith.

Most of the time, God works through the natural world that He has created, using ordinary means to speak to us. Sometimes God will use supernatural signs and wonders if necessary. We must not forget to invite the Holy Spirit to guide us on each decision, ask Him to renew our mind as we spend time in the Word so that we can think more like God. Once weve discovered God’s will for a particular situation, be courageous, Just Do It, don’t second-guess, and know that if we’ve made an honest mistake, God can always transform our situation to accomplish His purposes for His glory.
