Honey, I Blessed the Kids

“But I have said to you, ‘You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.’ I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples [sinners who don’t know God].” (Leviticus 20:24)

In the 1989 comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Rick Moranis was a nutty scientist who perfected a top-secret machine to miniaturize objects but he accidently shrunk his own children. God is our heavenly Father and His motto is Honey, I blessed the kids for God is so big, so wise and so loving that all He wants to do is bless His own children with honey and shrink their problems down to size.

God is promising in His Word that He will satisfy us with honey and the finest of wheat in Psalm 81:16. Figuratively, honey represents the finest blessings in life for God promised the children of Israel that He would give them a land flowing with milk and honey. A land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey in Deuteronomy 8:8. Honey is also good food for John the Baptist, who announced the coming of Jesus the Messiah, ate locusts and wild honey while preaching in the desert of Judea in Matthew 3:1-4.

Matthew 4:4 says that we must not live physically by bread or material things alone, but spiritually by the Word, and the Word of God is as sweet as or even sweeter than honey. (Ezekiel 3:3) “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103) If we taste the sweet Word of God as we meditate on it day and night, we will experience the blessings of honey not in the sweet by and by, but prosperity and good success here and now in Joshua 1:8.

As honey brightened Jonathan’s countenance, the Word of God will brighten, lengthen and enlighten our lives. “But Jonathan said, ‘My father has troubled the land. Look now, how my countenance has brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.’” (1 Samuel 14:29) Instead of refined white sugar which is processed food, God wants us to enjoy the sweetness of honey with our food so we can enjoy La Dolce Vita or the sweet life that God has in store for us. “My son, eat honey because it is good, and the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste.” (Proverbs 24:13).
