A Man for All SeasonsLet this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:5-7) In the 1966 Best Picture Oscar winner A Man For All Seasons, Paul Scofield gave a stellar performance as Sir Thomas More who risked his life when he stood up to King Henry the Eighth when the king dumped the Roman Catholic church to obtain divorce and remarriage. Catholic or not, we all can be a man or person for all seasons not like a mortal like Thomas More, but like Jesus. When Jesus came to earth, He gave up His divine position in the Holy Trinity, living not as God but as man. Jesus was no more Supernatural than Santana and was no Miracle Worker like Anne Bancroft until after He was anointed by the Holy Spirit. (Luke 3:22) Jesus had A Wonderful Life that Frank Capra could never direct, and worked wonders in The Wonder Years, not by His own power but by the power of God. (John 14:10) Jesus didnt prayed like Madonna in Like a Prayer, but as a man who walked obediently with God, and His prayers were heard not because of His divinity, but because of His godly fear or reverence toward God as a man who obeyed the Word. (Hebrews 5:7) Jesus, the Son of God, set aside the privileges and powers of heaven and lived humbly as a man on earth. We, as reborn children of God, filled with the same Holy Spirit as Jesus was, have the same opportunity to live as He lived on earth, and this is exactly what He intended in John 17:18 when prayed to God, As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. Jesus has sent us into the world to live as He lived to fulfill the Great Commission of Mark 16:15. Through the new birth and baptism of the Holy Spirit, He has empowered us to trade in the sinful nature of Adam for the holy, sinless nature of God. Jesus has given us His precious Blood, His Word, the Holy Spirit, His powerful Name which is above every name and the ability to live above sin, sickness and poverty, to live in fellowship with God and obey His Word, to preach the gospel, to heal the sick, to raise the dead, to cast out demons, and to make disciples of men. Its about time that we realize who we are and begin to live as Jesus meant for us to live, not as sinful descendants of fallen Adam, but as reborn children of God for all seasons.Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries.
