My Big Fat God Wedding

“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready....Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:7,9)

In the surprise 2002 hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding which was made for only $5 million and had made over $300 million at the box office, a young Greek woman fell in love with a non-Greek and tried to get her family to accept him and in the process rediscovered her Greek culture and heritage.

The New Testament was written in Greek and if we read it, we’d find that God has a big fat wedding planned for us. Many in the Church today are waiting for their Bridegroom to come and take their breath away. But the truth is Jesus Christ is waiting for His beloved Bride to make herself ready. He has been waiting patiently for over 2000 years because He loves us and desires us so much more than we desire or love Him.

No bride would show up on her wedding day without preparations but such is the case today, as many believers have made a verbal commitment to God when they confessed Jesus and Lord and Saviour, but are not making themselves ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb. God would not want His only Son to be married to someone who has not prepared herself like the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:2)

In the Book of Esther, King Ahasureus was having a feast in the third year of his reign. On the seventh day (we are now in the 7th millenium from Adam) the King called his queen Vashti to come, but she refused and even had a feast of her own with the girls. Like Vashti, the church at large is lovely to look at but refuses to come into the fullness of Christ. Like the golden calf, she is living a life in both worlds, living in the palace but disobedient to the Word of God. The King even sent seven eunuchs, representing the sevenfold spirits of God, to bring her, but she refused. The King then fired her and gathered all virgins with potential of becoming Queen to His palace.

Many are called, but few were willing to pay the price to be chosen. Esther was chosen because she pleased the King (Esther 2:4) like Enoch who pleased God by faith.(Hebrews 11:5) Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17) and it involves the complete surrender of SELF and obedience to the Word of God. We can be the Bride of Jesus and be invited to the ultimate big fat God wedding only if we live by faith in the Word of God for without faith it is impossible to please Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
