The Bounty

I will sing to the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me.” (Psalm 13:6)

The Bounty is a 1984 Mel Gibson remake of the 1935 Clark Gable original about Fletcher Christian and his mutiny on the ship HMS Bounty. Fletcher and his men discovered true bounty only when he had the courage to resist the oppression of evil Captain Bligh, took over the ship, set Bligh adrift, and settled in the tropical beauty of the Tahitian islands. Unlike Hollywood, God, the Creator of the universe, has The Trip to Bountiful for us.

God owns every beast of the forest and the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:11) and all the silver and gold are His. (Haggai 2:8) The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness (Psalm 24:1) Yet like little children we sometimes sat down at a spiritual table with God and asked, “God, are You buying?” Of course God is buying because we are His beloved children! When we sit at His table, we can have what we want and how much we want because He has the power to give us not only what we need but also things we desire or want. In fact, Ephesians 3:20 says that God can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the Holy Spirit power that’s within us.

Philippians 4:19 says that God shall supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. God will guide us continually and satisfy our soul (Isaiah 58:11). In 2 Chronicles 1:7, God told Solomon, “Ask! What shall I give you?” There are many things a Master Card cannot buy, and that's why God wants to be our divine source for everything we could possibly want. God has prepared a table of bounty for us in the presence of our enemies in Psalm 23:5. The table is full of the blessings of life right smack in the middle of sickness, poverty, disease, debt, oppression and suffering.

Unlike our tables, God’s table is a table of contents, full of abundance, and we are invited to His continual feast. We may want our steaks well done, but the sumptuous meal fit for a king has already been paid for with the precious Blood of His Son Jesus. Psalm 35:27 says that God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. Imagine how much more pleasure God gets when we as His dear children decide to take possession of His bountiful provision for us.
