Final Destination

“I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments [obey My Word]! Then your peace [wholeness] would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” (Isaiah 48:17-18)

In the 2001 scary movie Final Destination, friends who avoided a fatal plane crash somehow could not cheat death as they each die off unexpectedly one by one. While the world is nebulous and indefinite, and things around us appears to be in a state of flux, we believers have something rock solid we can depend on — the unchanging Word of God. God has no double standard for He is the LORD, and He does not change. (Malachi 3:6)

He doesn’t say one thing today and something else tomorrow for He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and if we’ll make the Word of God the final authority in our life, it will give us stability when everything else around us gives way. If we’ll let what God says settle the issues of life, we’ll be confident when others are confused, at rest when others are stuck on the treadmill of life, peaceful when others are not whole. We’ll be overcoming toward our final destination when others bite the dust.

Making God’s Word the final authority means believing what He says instead of believing what people say or even what we think. It means believing that our final destination is not death, but eternal life with an inheritance of glory. It means believing what God says in His Word instead of what the devil says. It means believing what God says instead of what the world, the flesh or the circumstances say. It means believing what the promises of God say about healing instead of what the doctors say, believing the promises of abundance instead of what our bank accounts say, and believing in restoration instead of what the lawyers say.

We need to determine in our hearts to let God teach us to profit and lead us by the way we should go. We must make up our mind to live by faith, not by sight. We need to obey and commit to the authority of God’s Word and there won’t be anything in this world that can steal our goods or trip us up on our way to our final destination.
