Money Talks

“And it shall be, when you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it, that you shall take some of the first [10%] of all the produce of the ground, which you shall bring from your land that the LORD your God is giving you, and put it in a basket and go to the place where the LORD your God chooses to make His name abide.” (Deuteronomy 26:1-2)

In the 1997 comedy Money Talks, a small time crook Chris Tucker made a deal with Charlie Sheen the TV newsman for protection from the cops and the mob. Unlike Hollywood, money talks real loud when we have a relationship with God and that's why most believers are not too excited when it comes to tithing. But they should be if they understood how to do it properly so they can live in the land of plenty. Biblical tithing shows that we obey the Word of God to the letter and it stirs up faith because it activates God’s power in our lives when we do it in gratitude and joy, expecting our needs to be met abundantly.

In Deuteronomy 26:8-10, God told the children of Israel to say a prayer when they brought their tithes. He reminded them that He had brought them out of Egypt and commanded them to say: “So the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and now, behold I have brought the firstfruits of the land which you, O LORD, have given me.”

The good news is God has done the same thing for us, for He has brought us out of a life of bondage, sickness, oppression and poverty into the good life that flows with milk and honey, with the abundance of God. So when we bring our tithes to God by supporting His churches and ministries that preach and teach the Word of God to the nations, we should say a prayer over the tithe and make it a time of rejoicing, a time of praise for the wonderful things God has done for us through the precious Blood of Jesus. We should thank Him for giving us the power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18), for delivering us from a land of not enough and into a land of more than enough.

As we joyfully bring the tithe, the first fruits of all our increase, the first 10% that God has generously allowed us to have, thank Him that it is a land of plenty, a land of joy, a land of peace and a land of prosperity. Tithe in faith, expecting the rich blessings of that land to be multiplied to us and expecting the windows of heaven to open above us and pour out such a blessing that we don’t even have room to receive. (Malachi 3:10) Money talks, God’s got much more money to show us than Jerry Maguire, and if we are faithful and obedient, we will soon find tithing to be one of the most profitable things we can do.
