Daredevil

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)

In the 2003 Ben Affleck action movie Daredevil, a man blinded by radioactive waste which also enhances his remaining senses fights crime as an acrobatic martial arts superhero. As we dare the devil and fight the good fight of faith, we must remember that our mind is where the battle takes place. If we want the Word of God to reign supreme, we must make up our mind to meditate on the Word day and night so that our mind is renewed so we can resist the devil when he sows the seeds of doubt, fear and unbelief within us.

We must refuse to surrender to the circumstantial pressure the devil brings our way as we decide that we will not succumb to any trial or affliction. When the heat is on, we dig in our heels and stand tall on the promises in the Word of God. When thoughts come that are contrary to God’s Word, we cast them down and don’t worry, for worrying is meditating on the thoughts of the devil and it contaminates our faith.

If we are worrying, stop immediately and replace worried, fearful, and doubtful thoughts with the Word of God. Worry is fear, and FEAR is false evidence appearing real. Naturally the devil will keep on telling us that our situation is hopeless like Kevin Costner in No Way Out. He will persistently peddle doubt, depression, defeat, and discouragement. But if we don’t allow him to sell his negative goods, his commission will be a big fat zero. If we don’t buy into his wretched lies, he can’t cause them to happen in our lives.

We all can be Daredevil because the devil is a loser, because God has promised in His Word that He will always lead us to triumph in Christ. We are guaranteed victory over any adversity we face and in fact, we are much more than conquerors because of what Jesus did at the cross. (Romans 8:37) We don’t have to be blind like Ben Affleck to be a daredevil because God is with us. We are already the winners, and all we have to do is spread the gospel of salvation to every creature (Mark 16:15), and the knowledge of victory in Christ in every place.
