Rain ManNow
it happened in the mean time that the sky became black with clouds and
wind, and there was a heavy rain. (1 Kings 18:45) In 1 Kings 18:41-45, the prophet Elijah was on the top of Mount Carmel praying for rain. There had been a terrible drought for three and a half years, and Elijah knew that it would take a great downpour to restore the land. After praying for a while, Elijah told his servant to go up and look toward the sea. The servant went up, looked around, and reported back that he saw nothing. Continuing to pray, Elijah told him to go again. Elijah sent his servant back not once, not twice, but seven times. Elijahs persistence paid off, for in the seventh time, the servant reported a cloud as small as a mans hand is arising out of the sea. And sure enough, the heavens were blackened with wind-swept, water-laden clouds, and there was a great rain. Many times in our lives we go through droughts of one kind or another, some lasting longer than three and a half years, and some less. Perhaps our finances, health, business, and love life are all dried up. May be were anxious for salvation of a loved one, a financial breakthrough, a supernatural favor, a wonderful spouse, a miracle of any kind, a divine healing, or a restored relationship. Weve prayed about it, but the report is the same as we see nothing, and there appears to be no change on the horizon, not even a cloud as small as a mans hand. We dont have to be an autistic who would only fly on Qantas like Dustin Hoffman to be rain man. All we have to do is let Elijahs refusal to give up encourage us to do the same. The Word of God says to go again, and again, and again. In spite of the circumstances we face, we must hold on in faith, keep on keeping on, stand on the promises in the Word of God, and keep believing until we get the breakthrough for many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
