Major League“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12) In the 1989 baseball movie Major League starring Tom Berenger and Charlie Sheen, a showgirl who became the owner of a baseball club after her husband died fields the worst team she can find to lower attendance so she can break the lease and move the team. Fortunately, we don’t have to play baseball or pull a fast one to be in the major league because persecution somehow always comes and it comes not because the devil gets a kick out of harassing us, but because we've become a serious threat to him. Persecution comes and catapults us into the major league because we've put the Word of God in our heart by enjoying these emails daily, because we meditate on the Word day and night and DO what it says, and the devil knows that if he doesn’t get it out, we're going to cause him far more trouble than he bargained for. We must not sit around whining or having a pity party when trouble comes. Instead we must rejoice because persecution means we’ve made it to the big league. It means the devil is taking us so seriously that he’s sending in his best and brightest, his first round draft picks in order to get us out of the game. Like going into the World Series, the NBA championship, the U.S. Open or the Super Bowl, we should accept that challenge with joy and with pride, knowing we're already a winner because of what Jesus did for us. After all, our God is more than able to see us through, for El Shaddai has more than enough resources to deliver us from our problems. God knows beforehand He can defeat anything the devil brings against us. Madonna and Geena Davis may be in A League of Their Own, but when persecution inevitably comes, we simply trust God and rejoice, knowing that we are much more than conquerors in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37) because we’ve made it to the major league.Copyright © 2002 Eddy Ministries.
