The CorruptorLet no corrupt
word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification,
that it may impart grace to the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29) We must be careful about the words we speak because in the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise. (Proverbs 10:19) We must give account to the words we speak (Matthew 12:36), for those very words can defile others (Matthew 15:18). Death and life are in the power of the tongue, (Proverbs 18:21) and the Bible further says that the tongue cannot be tamed for it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:8) If we do not control the words we speak then we have sinned against God. Many people murmur and complain against God when they encounter trials and tribulations, but Job did not murmur against God. (Job 1:22) The anger of God, however, descended upon Jobs three friends because of the corrupt words they speak. And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. (Job 42:7). Indeed it was not until after Job prayed for his friends that God restored Jobs losses and gave him twice as much as he had before. (Job 42:10) We must pray to God like David to keep watch over our lips so that our good words will make people glad as we edify them (Proverbs 12:25). Not only must we not let corrupt words come out of our mouths, we are commanded by God via the epistle of the Apostle Paul to young Timothy to be an example to the believers and to others in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
