God and GeneralsSo the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Thus Israel saw the great work which the LORD had done in Egypt; so the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD and His servant Moses. (Exodus 14:30-31) Although the 2003 movie Gods and Generals is about the rise and fall of legendary Civil War hero General Stonewall Jackson, God has different requirements for His generals in the Bible. The key to effective generalship or leadership in the kingdom of God is not charisma, ability, courage, political connection, or communication skills. While they are necessary to be an effective leader, the main attribute of Gods general is spiritual integrity with God and obedience to His Word. When this happens, God manifests His mighty power in and through that leader. Moses was effective because he was willing to obey the commands of God and God manifested His presence in him. The children of Israel followed because they saw God working in and through Moses in supernatural ways. They saw that this shepherd from Midian who parted the Red Sea and delivered his people from bondage in Egypt was worthy to be followed because Gods anointing was on him. When people see Gods power manifested in our lives, they will have a healthy fear of God, rededicate their spiritual lives, look at us and say, You have something I dont have and enquiring minds want to know. We must seek God wholeheartedly by spending time in His Word, resulting in His power being manifested in our lives wherever we go. When this happens, we can expect others to gravitate to what they see in us so we can tell them about the good news that God loves them and Jesus died to give them the free gift of salvation. The problem with many of us today is that sinners and unbelievers see nothing different about the way we live to motivate them to desire our faith and get spiritual with God. If were not experiencing regular close encounters of the God kind, then we need to ask why. We may not be called by God to be His general, but we should see the fruits of a God-centered life that is reflected in His undeniable presence in our lives.Copyright © 2003 Eddy Ministries.
