View From The Top

“God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.” (Psalms 53:2)

In the 2003 Gwyneth Paltrow movie View From The Top, a small town girl tries to achieve her goal of becoming a flight attendant. This may be Hollywood’s version about working for the airlines at 30,000 feet, but God’s version is that He too looks down from the top to see if any of us understand and seek Him so He can bless us with the abundance of heaven. Stephen King may have penned the 2003 horror movie Dreamcatcher, but how many of us are Godcatchers?

God delights in seeing His children who truly understand Him, who know the Word of God, the meaning of life, and why there is only one thing worth seeking, and that is God Almighty Himself. It is easy to tell when we have not been seeking God. The cares of this life and the stress they create, the urgent over the important, anger, vengeance, and irritations like traffic jams, road rage and children screaming are indicative of a life that has not been in the presence of God.

If we really, truly understand God, then why do we spend day after day toiling and fretting over what really doesn’t matter? We need to set boundaries in our lives that don’t allow our time with God to be stolen away by our jobs, business deals, friends and even family. In this day and age, it is indeed a challenge in a world that screams money, pleasure, activity, technology, and multitasking. We need to have a consistent time of seeking God in our lives through prayer, church attendance and meditation on the Word of God on a daily basis.

Are we committed to developing that intimacy with God that He so desires not just on Any Given Sunday like Al Pacino, but every day of the week? If not, ask God for help for this is the longing of His heart. Ask God to make it the longing of your heart. Then, and only then, will we demonstrate to Him that we understand, and we will be a seeker of God. And when we seek God, our cups of blessing will literally run over because surely His goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives. (Psalm 23:5-6)
