Oh God!

And Elisha sent a messenger to him saying, ‘Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.’” (2 Kings 5:10)

In the 1977 George Burns comedy Oh, God! directed by Carl Reiner, John Denver is the assistant grocery manager approached by a cigar smoking God to help spread his message. God often does things that seem unusual and mind boggling like using movies and TV shows from Hollywood to convey His message.

It was crazy to believe that a man could dip seven times in the Jordan river and be healed of leprosy, but that is exactly what Elisha told Naaman. Naaman was furious and resisted obeying the man of God, but when he finally got out of his mind and into his spirit where he belonged, he was gloriously healed.

Many of us would think it was foolish to believe that a man’s shadow passing over sick people could heal them, but Acts 5:15 says that people lined up the sick on beds and couches in the street so that the shadow of Peter could fall on them as he went by, and they were all healed. It looked even more ridiculous for Jesus to spit on some dirt to make a mudpie, brush it across a blind man’s eyes, then tell him to go wash it off in the pool of Siloam in John chapter 9.

The blind man walking through town to the pool with mud all over his face might have felt foolish and dehumanized, but when he got out of his mind and into his spirit where he belonged and obeyed the Son of God, he came back seeing with his eyes wide opened.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:27 says that God has chosen to use ideas the world considers to be foolish to confound those who think they are wise. The truth from the Word of God packs infinitely more wisdom than all the philosophies and knowledge of man. Furthermore, Isaiah 55:8 says that God does not think as we think, and His ways are far above our ways as the heaven is above the earth.

When we listen only to our natural mind, the way God does things may seem foolish to us. But in order to receive the miraculous, we have to do the ridiculous. When we lose our mind and take on the mind of Christ, when we get out of our mind and into our spirit where real truth is, miracles can and will happen, and Oh, God! and Praise the LORD is the least we can say.
