The Road Warrior

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

In the 1981 movie The Road Warrior or Mad Max 2, Mel Gibson is a cynical drifter who agrees to help a small gasoline-rich community escape from bandits like Humongous in the post apocalyptic Australian wasteland. We may not be a Lethal Weapon like Mel Gibson, but all of us are road warriors because we can choose which road to take. Many of us somehow believe that God inflicts us with pain and suffering every time we sin.

There are deadly wages for sin, but God is not the one who is paying them. The Bible tells us there’s been a curse on earth for thousands of years and the devil is the cause of it, not God. God warned us in Deuteronomy 30:19 where after describing the blessings that overtake those who followed God and the terrible curses that would fall on those who disobeyed Him, He said, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” But no matter what we’ve done, God wants to forgive us. God doesn’t want to put us down, He wants to save us and lift us up. We can trust Him as we study His Word and let Him put us on the road of life.

The Curse of the Jade Scorpion from Woody Allen and all other curses are out there, and God already warned us and urged us not to travel the Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks that leads us there. But God has promised to give us freedom, and He’ll allow us to Go Our Own Way like Fleetwood Mac. The good news is at any point in the journey whether we’re on the road to Curseville or living in the middle of it, God will save us like Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan.

LL Cool J can only Deliver Us From Eva, but God will deliver us from evil. He’ll deliver us from poverty, debt, shame, diseases, oppression, addictions, or anything else that’s been tormenting us. So if you find yourself on the wrong road like Frank Sinatra in My Way, just repent and get on the right road. You can have it your way at Burger King, but commit your way to Jesus and He’ll deliver you from Affliction. You can begin now by praying out loud, “Lord Jesus, I’ve chosen the wrong road and I ask You to forgive me. I choose life by choosing Your way. Please be my Lord and Saviour, deliver me from this bondage and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name, amen.”
