Reversal of Fortune

“For if by the one man’s [Adam’s] offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.” (Romans 5:15)

In the 1990 movie Reversal of Fortune starring Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons, socialite Claus von Bulow reversed his fortune and bought his way out of jail when he hire famed Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz to successfully appeal the murder conviction of his wealthy wife. If we ever need to learn how to reverse our fortune, to turn things around, just go to God who is a master on the subject because He has suffered more losses than any of us can bear. God lost Lucifer, His number one, most anointed angel and leader of His praise and worship team. God then lost a third of His angels (Revelation 12:4) when Lucifer fell from heaven (Isaiah 14:12) and took them with him as the newly minted devil.

At the garden of Eden, God lost Adam and Eve, the man and woman He had created when Adam committed high treason by eating the forbidden fruit. And because God had given them dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26, 28), when He lost them, He lost control of the earth after the fall of Adam to the devil for 6000 years. Then when Jesus was crucified, God temporarily lost His only begotten Son who was willing to die so we all can receive the free gift of salvation. Yet, in spite of all that, God is no loser because He is the greatest winner of all.

Imagine if sinners and murderers like Claus von Bulow and OJ Simpson could reverse their fortunes, how much more can a holy and righteous God know how to turn things around. God, the Creator of the universe and all its laws, uses the law of giving and receiving to turn apparent losses into gains. “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38). God had every option available in His bag of tricks to use to redeem the things He had lost.

God had all wisdom and power available to Him, but the law of seedtime and harvest, of sowing and reaping, is what He chose. (Genesis 8:22) God chose to sow the most precious thing He had, His only Son Jesus. Then He backed that irreplaceable gift with His own faith. When harvest time comes on Resurrection morning, God Almighty reaped not only His only begotten Son, but millions and soon to be billions of other sons and daughters into the Kingdom as well. So don’t worry about your losses, just redeem them God’s way. Stop working for a living and start giving for a living so you can reap and receive, and make the most powerful law in the universe work for you.
