ConfidenceDo not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught. (Proverbs 3:25-26) In the 2003 movie Confidence, Edward Burns is a grifter who latest scam backfired, leaving him indebted to mob boss Dustin Hoffman and his enforcer Andy Garcia. While the movie is a pun on the words Con Fidence or trusting in the big con, confidence actually comes from the Latin con and fideo meaning with faithfulness. God is telling us that He is faithful, that He will be our confidence when things, good and bad, occur suddenly in our lives. When God speaks to us and tells us about His calling it will define the rest of our lives as to how we respond. The patriarch Abraham must have been shocked when he heard God calling him to leave his moon worshipping Ur or modern day Iraq and go to a place he had never been. It was a shock for an 80-year-old Moses to encounter the burning bush. Jonah was not only shocked but offended when God called him to preach to that wicked country of Nineveh. It must have been a shock for Noah to learn that the entire earth would be a flood zone and he would have to build the ark to save humanity. The disciples of Jesus must have been shocked at their call but they dropped everything and followed Him. God in the Book of Proverbs tells us how to handle sudden changes whether good or bad. In Proverbs 3:21 Keep sound wisdom and discretion; so they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck, God is talking about the wisdom and discretion that comes from the Word of God which is the wisdom of God. In fact, God by His wisdom and understanding created the heavens and the earth. (Proverbs 3:19) If we are walking closely with God in our daily spiritual walk, reading His Word and let it renew our minds and prosper our souls, praying daily according to the Word, assembling with other believers by sharing these daily email devotionals, and seeking to serve God as He directs then we will be ready for blessings and promotion. The response we make to sudden changes life brings will define how our lives will turn out. If we are walking with God and obey His Word then we will not be afraid of evil tidings but will have His confidence as we move forward in the assurance of His power that He surely will deliver us and keep our foot from being caught. We will then have the abundant God kind of life that Jesus died to give us in John 10:10 no matter what affliction life brings our way.Copyright © 2003 Eddy Ministries. All rights reserved.
