Devil in a Blue Dress“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) In the 1995 movie Devil in a Blue Dress, Denzel Washington is a black private detective hired to find a woman who wears a blue dress and gets mixed up in a murderous political scandal. The devil is a liar and a master of disguise with many colors to fool us. He can wear the red suit with a tail and pitchfork or he can even wear a blue dress. If we’ve been asking God to chase the devil out of our lives, we need to stop because the Bible says we’re the one who’s supposed to overcome the devil. We overcome the devil by resisting him, by rebelling against him when he tells us to do something and doing what God says in His Word instead. When the devil tells us a lie, contradict him with the Word of God. Oppose him and when when we do that, he’ll flee and run in terror because we’ve just scared the living daylights out of him. Everywhere we go, as we walk in faith and oppose the devil as the light of the world, darkness is pushed back. Like the X-Men United, we can start pushing back the darkness because the life of God is within us as we study the Word of God day and night and submit ourselves to its commands. As we obey the Word and crucify the desires of the flesh, the Holy Spirit Himself is living inside us, and everywhere we go, He goes. When we submit to the Word of God, God gives us the strength to resist the devil and even make him flee in sheer terror. Every problem that rises up against us, every temptation the devil throws at us, every evil spirit that tries to influence us, is coming up against the power of God. Jim Carrey could only be Bruce Almighty or Liar Liar, but he is no match for God Almighty. All we need to do is be aware of that and renew our minds with the Word of God. We can begin living our life Moment By Moment like John Travolta and Lily Tomlin, knowing that the light of God is in us, the Word of God is in us, the Spirit of God is in us, and victory has been paid for by the Blood of Jesus.Copyright © 2003 Eddy Ministries.
