A Life Less Ordinary

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life [from the Greek zoe or the God kind of abundant life] to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Romans 8:11)

In the 1997 movie A Life Less Ordinary, Ewan McGregor is a cleaning man who takes his boss’ daughter Cameron Diaz hostage after being fired and replaced by a robot. That may be Hollywood’s take on living a life less ordinary, but God has a much better plan for us because the very same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us. Jesus was whipped and beaten to a pulp, crucified, and buried in a borrowed tomb for three days.

Steven Seagal was only Half Past Dead, but Jesus was a Flatliner beyond all Chicago Hope and deader than a doornail, yet the Holy Spirit raised Him back to life, a life much less ordinary, a life full of abundance and victory. We may find ourselves facing circumstances that are beyond hope, but we should rejoice because the very same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit doesn’t just live in us, He’s there to quicken or make alive everything in our lives — body, soul, spirit, relationships and finances.

Sharon Stone may have kicked butt in The Quick and The Dead, but what’s dead in our lives today can be quickened and brought back to life. If we have dead finances, the Spirit of God can quicken them. If we’re struggling with our emotions, body, business, marriage, family, or whatever, the same Spirit that quickened Jesus can quicken, restore, and make completely whole whatever is broken. All we have to do is find the promises in the Word of God that apply to the situation, speak the Word, sow a seed to meet our need, and expect a miracle.

God loved us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus to the cross to die for us to give us the free gift of salvation, deliverance, protection, restoration, prosperity and increase, and then He gave us the blessed assurance that the same Holy Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead is placed inside each and every one of us. Everything it took to raise Jesus from the dead dwells inside us to quicken our situation and bring it back to life, because Jesus came so that we may have life, the God kind of life, and that we may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
