Close Encounter...... of the God Kind“Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me” (Daniel 10:8) The prophet Daniel received a vision that troubled him greatly. His enquiring mind wanted to know so he set out to understand the vision by fasting for 21 days. Three days after his 21 day fast, an angel of God clothed in linen appeared to Daniel. The angel explained that God had heard his prayer from the FIRST day, but the angel was prevented from coming by the prince of Persia, a demon who controlled the Persian Empire and still do today through the mullahs and ayatollahs, who sought to thwart God’s angel from reaching Daniel. The prince of Persia was so powerful that the archangel Michael had to help the angel during that 21 day confrontation. Today, the Prince of Persia is a powerful lieutenant in satan's kingdom, being the right hand of the Prince of Islam, who controls the souls of 1.3 billion muslims. In fact, the very name Islam means submission. There are times when we must set ourselves to seeking God with all of our hearts and minds, especially now when the earth is in convulsion, terror is running amok, Kenneth Lay lives in poverty, Arnold is back with an ax to grind and the Messiah is coming soon to a location near you. It is in these times that we will hear from God in ways we have never experienced before because our words are heard (verse 12). Daniel’s perseverance in prayer and his 21 day limited fast (verse 3) was rewarded with a close encounter of the God kind. However, in order to receive from God, Daniel had to be left alone, his strength removed, and be placed in a totally helpless condition. When we have no ability in our own strength to move God or the events around us, we are in a good position to hear from Him. It is the acknowledgment of our humanity and weakness that places us in a position to have a close encounter of the best kind, that is, with the Majestic who created the universe. Do you need a close encounter with God today? You won’t get it from Steven Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss, or ET. A close encounter with God will totally change you and only God can provide the special effects. Do you need God to intervene on your behalf in your life? If YES, then seek Him with all your heart and soul. Renew your mind with His Word, pray, praise, give thanks, fast, tithe and give to honor Him. Demonstrate to God you are serious by meditating on His Word day and night. Be home alone, repent of your sins and acknowledge your helplessness before Him. Seek His face and He will reward you with the heaviness of His presence, His glory (kabod), and His power to deliver you from whatever is bewitching or oppressing you, and He will do it without any collateral damage.
