God AlmightyAnd Moses built an altar and called its name, [from the Hebrew Yahweh Nissi] The LORD is My Banner, for he said, Because the LORD has sworn: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation. (Exodus 17:15-16) In the 2003 Jim Carrey comedy Bruce Almighty, a TV reporter who complains about God too often is given almighty powers for 24 hours to teach him how difficult it is to run the world. Unlike Eddy Ministries and its sermons based on Hollywood titles, occasionally Hollywood takes things from the Bible for its title like Deliver Us From Eva and now, Bruce Almighty. Jim Carrey could only possess Godlike power for 24 hours, but there is no one who can even come close to God Almighty. In Exodus 17:8, Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. God instructed Moses to stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in his hand and raise both hands. When Moses hands were tired, Aaron and Hur supported him from each side until the sun went down and Amalek were defeated by Joshua. Moses staff represented something that God said He would use to bring glory to Himself. The staff represented the profession of Moses as a shepherd in the Midian desert for 40 years. When God first called Moses into service at the burning bush, He told him to pick up the staff so that He could perform miracles through it. God is our banner of victory, and He wants to perform miracles through each of us not just on Memorial Day, but every day. At Rephidim, God defeated Amalek only when Moses raised both his hands. It was a sign of dependence that God Almighty was the source of Israels power. When Moses dropped his hand, Gods power was removed and Israel began to lose against Amalek. Each day we are to obey the Word of God, pray toward heaven and allow God Almighty to be our source of victory or be defeated by the modern Amalek of the flesh, the world, and the devil. God calls us to let His banner reign supreme as a memorial so that others may know the source of our victory. Then the LORD said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. (Exodus 17:14) God Almighty wants those around us to know that He, and He alone, is the source of our power and success, because each victory is a memorial that we can build for God's glory to share it with our friends, family and the lost so they can receive the gospel of salvation.Copyright © 2003 Eddy Ministries.
