Dreamcatcher

“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?’ So [God] said, ‘I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.’” (Exodus 3:11-12)

In the 2003 thriller Dreamcatcher, four friends who met a stranger while hunting in the woods must fight psychotic army colonel Morgan Freeman and a being that has possessed one of their minds. In these last days, the Holy Spirit is inspiring many of us to catch a dream, a dream of doing something really great for God. A dream of being so rich and prosperous that we can finance humanitarian projects, nationwide revivals and global evangelism where the gospel of salvation is preached to every creature as commanded by Jesus in Mark 16:15.

A dream of leading not just millions but billions of lost or backslidden souls to the Kingdom of God. If we’ll believe God, even a poor image or lack of skills won’t keep us from success. Moses didn’t have a very good self-image for he had made a bad mistake at age 40. Even though Moses walked like an Egyptian, it was the mistake of killing the Egyptian that drove him into the backside of the Midian desert and kept him there for 40 years herding sheep for Jethro his father-in-law. Moses had once dreamed of being a deliverer of Israel, but as far as he was concerned, he was put out to pasture, finished, failed, finito, and kaput.

But God, who always has the last word, didn’t think so. When God came to Moses in the burning bush, He didn’t ask for Moses’ resume. God didn’t mention his rap sheet, He just told him to go see Pharaoh and tell him to let God’s people go. Moses, however, still had reservation for his own guilt trip. “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?” he stuttered. God just said emphatically, “I will certainly be with you.” It didn’t matter who Moses was because what really mattered was that God Almighty was with him.

The same thing is true for us since we don’t need a history of successes, training in man-made seminaries or more degrees than a thermometer to answer God’s call. We don’t need a string of spiritual, academic or theological credentials. All we need is the presence of God and the will to obey His Word. So the next time the devil tells us we’re a failure, that we’ll never be able to do what God has put in our hearts to do, step on him like a Persian rug and tell him it doesn’t matter who we are because God is with us. Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen could only start Dreamworks, but with God on our side each of us can be a dreamcatcher.
