2 Fast 2 Furious

“Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice [and recompense]; blessed are all those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 30:18)

In the 2003 movie sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious, Paul Walker is a cop stripped of his badge who is recruited to infiltrate the Miami street racing circuit to redeem himself. Unlike Hollywood who also produced the original The Fast and the Furious, God is not in a hurry like Tyrese and we can’t pull a fast one on Him. Abraham and Sarah were in their old age of 100 and 90, respectively, when they finally received the son of promise, Isaac, after 25 years of waiting.

From the Midian desert, it took 40 years for Moses to receive his calling at the burning bush to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt, and it took 13 years of preparation before Joseph was finally delivered from slavery and imprisonment to the palace to be The Prince of Egypt. It took 20 years before Jacob was released from his uncle Laban’s manipulations and control.

God called each of these servants to accomplish a certain task in His Kingdom, yet He was in no hurry to bring their mission into fulfillment until He as the Master Potter accomplished what He wanted in them. Like the song by Janet Jackson, God is telling us Let’s Wait a While as He is also waiting on us. Like Whitney Houston, God is Waiting To Exhale His many blessings upon us, but only at the right time when we are good and ready to receive.

We have a tendency to be more focused on outcome than the process that God is accomplishing in us. When we experience God’s presence daily by spending time in His Word, we will wake up one day and realize that God has done something special in and through our lives. However, the accomplishment is no longer what excites us. Instead, what excites us is knowing God intimately. Through those times, we become more acquainted with God’s love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, provision, deliverance and power in our lives. When this happens, we are no longer focused on the end result because the outcome is a result of our spiritual walk with God.

It is not the goal of our walk, but the byproduct as we take a walk on the God side. When Joseph rose to power and prominence in Egypt, he probably couldn’t have cared less because he had came to a place of unconditional surrender so that he was not anxious about tomorrow nor his circumstances. Instead of being 2 Fast 2 Furious, we must be patient and wait for God’s timing and endure where we are in the process. When we find contentment in the midst of trials and tribulations instead of Finding Nemo, we’ll begin to experience the goodness of God as never before.
