Fight Club“You will not
need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the
salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or
be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.” In the 1999 Brad
Pitt movie Fight Club, a man disillusioned with life encounters an exciting
stranger who introduces him to an underground fight club and a new way of
life. That may be Hollywood's version where we have to do our own fighting,
but in the Bible God reveals that He wants to do the fighting for us. When
troubles threaten to overwhelm us from every side, we may feel as though we
don’t have the strength or the wisdom to fight them. In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat was faced Against All Odds with three coalition armies from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir that were coming like The Terminator to destroy his kingdom. Hopelessly outnumbered, it looked as though there was only two chances, slim and none, and Slim is out of town. Long before The Fast and the Furious, Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. (2 Chronicles 20:3) In overwhelming
situations when we don’t know what to do, we have to ask, “Have I set myself
to seek God?” That means quit running around 2 Fast 2 Furious, stand still,
and look to God through prayer and meditation on His Word. We can’t stand
still when we’re in fear or hiding in the Panic Room with Jodie Foster, we
can stand still only when we’re in faith. After
Jehoshaphat and the people sought God the prophet Jahaziel who was filled
with the Spirit of God said, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this
great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” ( 2 Chronicles 20:
15) The battle we’re going through against sickness, poverty, debt, bondage,
oppression, marital strife or whatever isn’t our battle because it is God’s. God said in His Word that He would fight for us. Join God’s fight club where our part is to seek Him every day as we spend time meditating on the Word of God and position ourselves by standing on His Word in faith. Then, and only then, can God Almighty work a miracle for us and to God be all the glory. Copyright © 2003
