Bad Boys

“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you... No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” (Psalm 91:7,10-11)

In the 1995 movie Bad Boys, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are two hip Miami police detectives who protect a murder witness while investigating a case of heroin stolen from the police evidence room with a street value of $100 million. Eight years later in 2003 Will Smith and Martin Lawrence each gets $20 million for the sequel Bad Boys 2. Even without the bad boys, this is a terrifying world we’re living in today, a world that staggers from one disaster to another.

Almost daily we hear about wars and rumors of wars, lies, more lies and statistics, about the dangers of weapons of mass destruction, earthquakes, fires and floods, about diseases like SARS and crime sweeping through our cities. But in the midst of it all, God is promising to be a refuge and a fortress to those who will trust and dwell in Him. Back when Psalm 91 was written, man hadn’t even invented weapons that could destroy ten thousand people at once, but now any well-financed or state-sponsored terrorist can. So whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

Read all of Psalm 91 and recall that “no evil shall befall you” is a powerful promise from the Word of God and you need to speak it and believe it. Kevin Costner could only be The Bodyguard, but God Almighty Himself wants to be your protection, your security, and He wants to be the first Name you call when the bad boys come. God wants to be the One that you trust in and look to, to keep you safe and sound. And if you’ll do that, He’ll never, never let you down. God can handle all the dangers that surround you, and He proved that with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3.

They were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace that was so hot that the men who threw them in were killed by the heat. But when the heat is on God brought them through and when they came out, they didn’t even smell like smoke. So, no matter how terrifying things around you appear to be, trust God as you meditate on His Word daily. God will always be faithful, and He’ll never screen your call when you need help. The United States Postal Service does not work 24/7, but God will be right there to deliver you from any problem, any catastrophe, any devastation, any bad boy, any Dr Evil, and any Mini Me.
