Freddy vs Jason

"Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." (Luke 10:19)

In the 2003 horror movie Freddy vs Jason, hell is raised on earth when Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees are resurrected for a showdown at Camp Crystal Lake. The world we live in is full of Freddys and Jasons, which the Bible calls serpents and scorpions, but the good news is God has already given us the power to tread on them so they cannot hurt us. We all get hurt, cheated, lied to, used, abused, or stepped on like a Persian rug. It’s as predictable as it is a painful fact of life. Yet when it happens most of us find ourselves strangely unprepared. In our rage, we often cry out to God against the one who wronged us. We try to get even, litigate, seek justice or vengeance, and end up making things tougher on everybody, including ourselves.

If that’s been true of you, it’s time you find out how you can put the power of God to work the next time somebody does you wrong. First off, you need to identify the enemy, and it is here where most of us make our biggest error. We mistakenly identify our enemy as the person who hurts us. Don’t waste your energy ranting and raving or plotting and scheming against people who cause you pain. They’re simply Possessed and under the devil’s influence. Aim your spiritual ammunition at the right target because it’s the devil who’s behind it all. Go after him instead.

Once you’ve pointed your spiritual gun in the right direction, lock, load and fire. Hit the devil 2 Fast 2 Furious with the uncompromised Word of God. Use the Name of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit that’s been given you as a believer and bind the devil from doing any more harm. Then move on to the next and most important part of this spiritual battle and that is to pray the prayer of intercession. In Matthew 5:44-45, Jesus commands us to “love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be the sons of your Father in heaven.”

Calling The Avengers, crying out for Payback like Mel Gibson or Revenge like Kevin Costner when somebody does us wrong isn’t acting like our Father in heaven because God is loaded, and reloaded, with love and mercy. So the next time someone causes you pain, put the power of God to work for you. Instead of calling The Terminator, identify the devil as the real enemy, be like Pat Benatar and Hit Him With Your Best Shot with the authority you’ve been given as a believer. Then pray the prayer of intercession and it’ll scare not just the Living Daylights, but also the Freddy and the Jason out of him. The devil will probably think twice before he bothers you again.
