Hurts So Much

“Those who sow in tears will reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bring his sheaves with him.” (Psalm 126:5-6)

The law of sowing and reaping is as universal and absolute in truth as the law of gravity. It is true whether you believe it or not. And if you don’t believe in hell and choose to live a sinful life without fellowship with God, it’s still there and you’re still going. As believers, we have the right to receive a harvest if we sow. Many of us are holding on to our fistful of dollars tighter than Clint Eastwood because we think that money belongs to us when the truth is God owns it all and we are just stewards of what He allowed us to possess. We are afraid to sow because we don’t believe we have the right to harvest.

But that is not what the Word of God says. Jesus said it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). Paul said God will give seeds to the sower, multiply our seeds sown, give us bread to eat and increase the fruits of our righteousness (2 Corinthians 9:10). Sowing in tears is sowing in the midst of lack, debt, suffering and pain. Sowing in tears is when you don’t really want to, when your flesh wants you to spend it on SELF, when it hurts so much to give little of what you have left, when you can’t even find that John Cougar Mellenkamp CD. Sowing in tears is when you put your faith to work, believing in the Word of God, believing in God your heavenly Father to return to you a hundredfold harvest.

The most difficult place to keep moving in faith is the place of extreme pain. Pain, especially emotional and financial pain, can become immobilizing to the human spirit if it is allowed to overcome us. The psalmist tells us there is only one remedy for overcoming painful circumstances that will result in joy. We are to sow in the midst of these times. You cannot do this if you live by feelings alone. It is an act of the will, of mind over money. This act requires that we go outside ourselves in pure faith, faith in Word of God, faith in the law of sowing and reaping, faith in God the LORD of the Harvest, faith in the angels to reap our harvest.

I learned this principle during one of the deepest periods of my life last year. I had lost much that was dear to me. God spoke to me to reach out to others by emails in spite of my own pain. “Bless someone else with the wisdom of God,” He said. I did not realize what a place of healing, edification, exhortation and comfort that would become when I started Eddy Ministries a year ago. Many of us learn from the gym the adage no pain, no gain. Pain can become a source of joy if we take the first step by sowing seed. There is a harvest of joy unspeakable and full of glory that will come from God Himself if we sow in the midst of tears, if we sow when it hurts so much, if we sow into the rich soil of ministries that feed us with the Word, if we sow in obedience to His Word believing we receive.
