And NOW...Ladies and Gentlemen

And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” (Exodus 3:14)

In the 2002 movie by French director Claude Lelouche And Now...Ladies and Gentlemen, Jeremy Irons the British jewel thief and Patricia Kaas the jazz singer are brought together in the NOW by their mutual desire to forget the past. And long before Barry Manilow penned the song Even Now, God has always been a NOW God. In Exodus chapter 3, God told Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.

When Moses asked, “If they ask me, ‘Who sent you?’ what should I tell them?” God answered, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ God was the I AM then, He is the I AM today, and He will be the I AM tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). God does not change. (Malachi 3:6) In other words, God is a NOW God back in the day of Moses and He is a NOW God of today. And NOW ladies and gentlemen, God wants to meet all of your needs not tomorrow, not next week or next month or next year, but NOW. Sean Penn may have been I Am Sam, but God is the great I AM.

When Jesus came to earth, He came in the flesh as a man so He could feel all of our human needs. He was tempted in every way as we are, yet He was without sin by the power of the Holy Spirit. On the cross, He bore the hurt, pain, and suffering of every sickness and disease that we could ever experience such as cancer, SARS and AIDS (Matthew 8:17). And by His stripes, by the 39 stripes on His back by the Roman whip that tore the flesh, we were healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

The chastisement of our peace, our shalom or wholeness with nothing missing and nothing broken, was upon Him. Jesus did it because He loves us. He shed His precious sinless blood on the cross for us. Jesus gave us the use of His powerful Name to bind evil spirits and loose angels to serve and protect us because He’s a NOW God who wants to heal us and meet our needs. He wants to give us the God kind of life, a life with more abundance in the NOW of our lives. (John 10:10)
