Victor/Victoria

For whatever [or whoever] is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith [in the Word of God].”
(1 John 5:4)

In the 1982 movie Victor/Victoria, Julie Andrews is a woman pretending to be a man named Victor who pretends to be a woman named Victoria. The good news from the Bible is that we don’t have to cross-dress or have a name like Victor or Victoria to be a victor, because we already are through Jesus who defeated the devil at the cross. Hundreds of years ago the devil started a rumor mill where he told struggling believers that as long as they lived in the world, they had to suffer as the world did. He told them they had to share in the diseases, defeat, sickness, poverty, oppression, and failure of those around them.

It was one of his True Lies, and it magnificently worked. Believers accepted it in droves and began to spread it among themselves, even to this day. Despite what you may have heard, health, prosperity, wholeness, favor, increase, blessing, promotion, restoration and victorious living aren’t fictitious concepts some preacher or TV evangelist conjured up. They are God’s ideas and they come from His Word. We do, however, live in a world that’s full of problems, crises and lies. Even Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation.”

But Jesus also went on to say, “But be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Most believers don’t have any trouble believing the many tribulations and trials that surround them. They sing ‘We shall overcome,’ but they’re not so sure about the overcoming part. They haven’t yet experienced what Jesus meant when He said He overcame the world and deprived negative things of power to harm them because they’re still living as though they're in the world. But Jesus said we are to be sanctified, or separated from the evils of this world, through the Word of God. (John 17:17)

The Word of God will separate you from Hollywood, Fox Sports Net, Las Vegas, Harry Potter, pornography and the rest of the world as you meditate on it day and night and renew your mind with the mind of Christ. The Word will set God’s plan of victory and prosperity into motion for your life as you build your faith. If you’ll receive it and believe it, speak it and act on it, that Word will set you apart from those around you. The Word of God will elevate you from trial to triumph, from victim to victor, and make you much more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37) over your circumstances time and again.
