A League of Your Own

“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for GREAT is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12)

When persecution comes in your life in the form of that IRS lien, sickness, lack, unemployment, separation or oppression, don’t just sit around whining or waste your time having a pity party for yourself. Despite what you may think, that persecution hasn’t come because the devil enjoys picking on you. It comes because you’ve become a threat to him. It comes because you’ve put the Word of God in your heart, and if the devil doesn’t get it out, you’re going to cause him far more collateral damage than Arnold.

Rejoice and be exceeding glad! Big time persecution means you’ve made it from the little league to the major league. It means the devil is taking you so seriously that he’s sending his best players to strike you out! You are now in a league of your own, and you have God as your manager, not Tom Hanks. The players that make it to the World Series don’t look for a way out. They don’t say, “I rather sit in the dugout with Madonna or be in a Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner.” Those guys are the best and brightest and relish every opportunity in the limelight for they’ve worked all their life to get there and just can’t wait to go to bat or stealing home.

That’s how you should be when the devil throws a fastball at you. You should accept that with joy, knowing you’re going to hit a homerun and come out a winner for God is on your side. After all, your God, El Shaddai, is more than sufficient to see you through, to see that your bases are loaded. His Word contains some 7000 promises you can use to get out of any mess you may get into. God never wonders if He’s going to have
enough resources to get you over your problems. God created the devil so He can beat anything the devil brings against you for no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). God will pitch a no hitter for you every time. Did you catch that?

When persecution comes, trust God and His Word and rejoice, knowing that you’ve made it to the major league now! Remember, persecution equals compensation and promotion. So, avoid the foul plays, be patient and trust God to deliver you as He said in His Word.
