Great Expectations

“And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you OBEY the voice of the LORD your God.” (Deuteronomy 28:2)

Some people have seen the movie and read the book but just don’t have great expectations of what God will provide for them. They trust Him to feed, house and clothe them, but they don’t trust Him to feed, house and clothe them very well! They think that God is a pennypincher, a Grinch who will do little more than put a roof on their heads and bread on their tables. But Jesus said in Matthew 6 that God would clothe us better than He clothed Solomon and King Solomon was the richest and wisest man on earth. That alone proves that God wants to do much more than just meet our basic needs. God wants to bless us richly and abundantly so that the lost and unsaved will see the glory and the power of God in us and through us.

Back in 2000 I received a very nice gift from one of my associates who has an internet company. He sent me a gold Rolex sportswatch, the Yachtmaster, that I have always admired. I was delighted but couldn’t really enjoy the gift for I thought that was so extravagant for me to wear. But I had to wear it daily for it is automatic. God then reminded me. “Remember Deuteronomy 28 that says blessings shall come on and overtake those who obey My voice?” “Yes,” I answered. “You’ve just been overtaken.” God said. What I am saying is God gave me that gold Rolex just so I could enjoy them and display His blessing. Ever since then I have cancelled all my guilt trips and subscribe only to great expectations for I have a Father who owns it all and I am His child and His heir.

1 Timothy 6:17 says God gives us RICHLY all things to enjoy. ALL things, spiritual, emotional, marital, social, physical and of course, material. God is a loving Father who gets great pleasure from blessing His children. It is God’s pleasure to give us the treasure. I know of others who have received designer suits, watches, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce and even airplanes. If your earthly fathers [and mothers] love you and want the best for you, imagine how much more will God your heavenly Father love YOU. God is much more extravagant than Las Vegas where we’re concerned and unlike Frank Sinatra, God will do things His Way.

Of all people, God, the Creator and Possessor of heaven and earth, can afford it for His Master’s Card has no spending limits, unlimited cash advance, no APR, no late charges and no penalties. You can write access checks drawn on God’s account until kingdom come and even accumulate miles and miles for your free trip to heaven. Master the possibilities with the blessings of God. You can leave home without the American Express Card if you have the favor of God on you. You don’t have to date Gwyneth Paltrow to maintain your great expectations. Listen to and obey God’s voice, meditate on His Word and before long before His priceless blessings will be overtaking you.
