All About the Benjamins

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in ALL things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 2)

Once you believe it is God’s will to prosper you, you can’t help but wonder how He is going to do it. Is He going to put a check in the mail? Or start raining down all those Benjamins, the $100 bills, from heaven? Is prosperity all about the Benjamins? Of course NOT. God’s going to do it by prospering your soul as you study and meditate on His Word day and night. The Word of God is soul food, not collar green, fried catfish or corn bread. God’s going to plant the seeds of prosperity in your soul – your mind, will and emotions – and as they grow, they’ll produce a financial harvest of immense proportions.

When Joseph was sold as a slave to the Egyptians, he didn’t have a shekel to his name. He didn’t even have his freedom. But in his slavery, God gave Joseph such wisdom, favor and ability that he made his owner Potiphar prosper. As a result, Potiphar put Joseph in charge of all his possessions. Later, Joseph was put in prison in the world’s first sexual harassment case and even then he was put in charge of the prison. Even though Joseph walked like an Egyptian, God gave him insight that none of them had. That insight landed him in Pharaoh’s court as the most powerful man in the entire country next to Pharaoh himself.

He rode in a royal chariot and the people were commanded to bow down before him. During a worldwide famine, Joseph was in charge of all the food and all the wealth from starving countries poured into Egypt in the seven years of famine. Egypt leveraged itself into the richest, most powerful empire in the ancient world because of the wisdom and the favor that was on Joseph. Global wealth transfer and empire building, now that’s prosperity! How did God accomplish all that? By prospering Joseph’s soul. No matter how dismal his situation became, no matter how impossible his problems, God was able to reveal the spiritual secrets that would open the door of success for him. Interestingly, Benjamin is Jacob’s youngest son and Joseph’s only blood brother.

That’s what makes God’s soul food, His Word and His way of prospering us, so exciting. It works anywhere and everywhere, from Alaska to Zanzibar. And you can be sure that it will work for you if you would just enjoy eating soul food every day! Be like Joseph, not Ice Cube, and you will get all the Benjamins.
