Love Story“For God so loved the world, that He GAVE His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting LIFE.” (John 3:16) For God so loved the world that He gave, and gave, and gave and like the Energizer bunny, God just keeps on giving. That is the message the Bible tells us and that’s why it’s called the good news. It’s so simple, yet few of us can comprehend it. We understand the Majestic, the God of power, might and majesty. But a God who loves us so much that He desires above anything else to give to us? That is hard to believe in a selfish world that we live in. God has been working hard to release the revelation of His love into our hearts. He has made promises of blessing, favor, increase and protection. But God’s always faced the same obstacle, people who couldn’t believe those promises were true for they were too humanly good to be true. Look at the story of Abram or Abraham after God changed his name to father of many nations. He wasn’t accustomed to a God who gives for he was a moon worshiper in Ur [modern Iraq] and the moon never gave him anything. Then he encountered El Shaddai, the Master of the universe, Almighty God. The first thing God did, He gave him land, descendants and blessing in Genesis 12. God’s promises were so much Abram just couldn’t believe them. God confirmed His giving to Abram by cutting a blood covenant in Genesis 15 and that settled any question about God’s love [chesed] and faithfulness. Once blood had been shed, Abram knew God meant what He said. God also cut a blood covenant with you, and He sacrificed His own Son to do it. Jesus’ broken body, stripes on His back and precious Blood are proof of God’s love for you. It is more than a proof, it is also Proof of Life, the God kind of life, something that Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan can never give you. Receive God’s love for you, indeed A Love Before Time, before Crouching Tiger, by meditating on the covenant. Get out the bread and wine, kneel before God and take Communion thinking about the body and blood of Jesus that allows you to be a blood-bought member of God’s royal family. You are more royal than the Tenenbaums for you are made kings and priests unto God. You don’t need Ryan O’Neal or Harvard to have Love Story, all you have to do is read God’s Word and receive it into your heart.
