Look Who’s Talking“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me.” (John 10:27) So many of us are unsure of our ability to hear God or know His voice. We are afraid that we won’t be able to tell when God is talking to us. What we need to realize is hearing the voice of the Spirit of God is a privilege that the Bible says belongs to every believer (Romans 8:14). All we have to do to exercise that privilege is to receive it by faith and put ourselves in a position to hear. Jesus said His sheep will know His voice and a stranger’s voice they will not follow. That is a promise of God to you today. The Spirit of God will never guide you in contradiction to the written Word of God (John 16:13). So, if you’re not familiar with what the Word says, you’ll find it more difficult to discern His leading. Get acquainted with God’s voice by meditating and studying the Word of God. Follow God’s instruction in Joshua 1:8 and meditate on the Word day and night so that what you do will prosper and you will have good success. Be obedient to the Word, not just when it’s easy but every time. Be obedient even in the minors so that God will reward you with the majors. That continual obedience to the written Word will bring you into spiritual maturity and tune your ear to the voice of the Spirit. You’ll soon recognize it as easily as you recognize the voice of your close friend. So, instead of wondering, start expecting to hear from God. You don’t need John Travolta or Bruce Willis to hear who’s talking. Play it by ear, sharpen your spiritual ears by spending time in the Word and God will give you ideas and witty inventions you’ve never dream of, and no good thing will pass over you.
