The Battlecruiser the Fiji was sunk with three other R.N. battlecruisers whilst attacking a German blockade. Although four ships were lost, the overall battle was won, as the R.N. managed to break up the German convoy. The Fiji was finally destroyed by a Luftwaffe airstrike late on during the day. Played left forward for Filey Town Football Club and was known as ‘Clicker’. Memorial photo available. |
