b. 10/5/1906, Sculcoates d. Sunday 22nd October 1942 (aged 36)

A further R.N.P.S. casualty, Edward lived in Filey with his wife Rose at 62, Newthorpe.  Edward’s parents William and Mary Hunter were also living in Filey at the time.  Edward had been involved with the Patrol Service since its inception at the start of the war and was serving aboard the trawler Orfasy which was primarily engaged as a convoy escort for ships and tankers bringing vital supplies across to Britain and its Allies.

On her final assignment the Orfasy was told to escort the Norwegian Tanker D/T Litopia around the British coast as it continued on its journey from Lagos to Freemantel.  Unfortunately, they were met by U-Boat 68 who sunk both the Litopia and the Orfasy with a substantial loss of life to both crews.

Edward’s body was never recovered and he is remembered on Lowestoft Naval Memorial.  He was entitled to the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star and the General Service Medal.
