ROBINSON, Richard Duke
(7384400, Private)
b. 1917, Filey d. Wednesday 23rd
April 1943 (aged 26)
Another of the North
Africa campaign casualties, Richard belonged to the Royal Army
Medical Corps and was either an orderly or, more likely, a stretcher
bearer. He did not die in action like
many of his comrades as his death is recorded as being in La Reunion Field Hospital,
Algeria
from a ‘double rupture’. This is
effectively an extremely serious hernia which could have caused death. More likely is that the wound became infected
or that he developed peritonitis as a result of surgery on it. Richard was
buried in La Reunion War Cemetery.
He was the son of Richard and Mary
Robinson of Filey.
