Harry BRIGHT (20702, Private)

b., Filey   d. Tue. 22nd Aug. 1916

Volunteered in 1915 and was placed in 1st/5th Warwickshire Regt. at the completion of his training.  Before the war he was known as a general labourer around Filey and was seeing a girl called Jane Ann Johnson; the two were married on 28th July 1915, probably just before his enlistment.  When he was posted to France Harry was based around the Somme region and saw the heavy fighting that occurred during the 1916 campaign.  This was eventually to be the area where he was killed as he went ‘over the top’ on 22nd August 1916 and was never seen again.  No trace of him was ever found, and he is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, dedicated to all the men who fell and were never seen again on the Somme.
