Tom CHAPMAN (21228, Private)

Tom enlisted
into the 12th Battalion, (Prince of Wales Own) West Yorkshire Regt.
in early 1915 and was sent to France
in early 1916. He was at the front line
during much of the build up to the 1916 Somme Offensive, and fell at the Battle
of Delville Wood, having seen some of the fiercest
and bloodiest fighting to happen during WWI.
He was laid to rest in La Neuville Cemetery
after succumbing to his wounds at a nearby casualty clearing station. Tom was the son of John William and Eliza
Chapman, of 5, Spring Road, Filey.
