Tom
grew up in Leicester with his father William,
but moved to Filey in 1912 and became a ‘householder’ at 39, Queen Street. At some point during the first half of the
war he went back to his hometown and joined the 1st/4th
Battalion of the Leicestershire Regt., and eventually went to the trenches with
them. He was declared Missing In Action on 2nd July 1918 and his body was not
recovered until after the end of the war, the cause of death never being
specifically found and he is buried in Pernes British Cemetery.
